Sunday Afternoon Reggae – Backbeat Sound System

27 May

The birds are singing, the sun is out, and the margaritas are flowing. There’s one band that immediately springs to mind to accompany this kind of day, and that’s Backbeat Sound System.

Backbeat Sound System

Cornwall’s  Backbeat Sound System are definitely one to watch. Their infectious, bass-led, reggae/funk vibe has already taken the festival world by storm with appearances all over Britain.  Packed with soul, their rhythmic songs draw on a myriad of genres and influences combining to create a perfectly crafted, unique sound.

Live, they are a full force party band that know how to work a crowd. I saw them for the first time at Beautiful Days 2011, they were one of the bands I was most looking forward to and urged everyone I met to see. It’s no coincidence that the moment they fired up the bass, the dreary Saturday morning clouds parted, sunlight engulfed the festival and the funky reggae party was slammed straight into top gear. All agreed, they were a definite highlight of the weekend.

With two incredible E.P.s  already under their belt alongside a collection of remixes, they are yet to release anything that wouldn’t get even the most adamant toe tapper on their feet and skanking. For us Hampshire folk they are headlining the wonderful Pulse Festival in Totton, but wherever you reside, be sure to catch them at your next chance. You won’t regret it.
